In a trend setting move, Tamil Nadu is all set to become the first state in India to have a separate authority for cadaver transplant.
The Cadaver Transplantation Authority (CTA) is expected to streamline the entire transplantation process. The state also plans to establish an organ registry that in due course will become a regional centre for coordinating organ transplantation in the southern states.
Speaking about the Authority, a senior health official of the state said, “The cadaver transplantation authority is likely to be led by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Different stakeholders in transplant will have a say in making the life-saving process more effective. The authority will also evolve policies on transplantation.”
